American Legion Arena – Mobile, Alabama

Opened in: 1932

Location: At the end of Dauphin Street

Seating capacity: 2,500

The building that was built at the foot of Dauphin Street on the Mobile River was alternately referenced as the Wharf Arena, Barrett’s Arena and the American Legion Arena. Wrestling was presented in that location from the 1930s until 1951 when the building was purchased by the Shriners organization and moved intact to a location at the corner of Government and George Streets. It was renamed the Shrine Auditorium and it is still standing, but not in use.
